HOUSTON TOWNE LAKE TRIATHLON CHANGED TO AQUATHLON!

Due to wet and dangerous road conditions Onurmark and local law enforcement made the difficult choice to eliminate the bike portion of this Sunday's race. It was a tough call but done to keep everyone safe and still put on a first class event. Most still came out and a good time was had by all!

WEATHER DELAY/CANCELATION POLICY

RAIN- The event will NOT be cancelled due to rain alone unless the downpour is such that athletes, lifeguards, police, and volunteers lose visibility making situations unsafe. If this occurs we will wait until the rain subsides and follow the same procedure listed for lightning conditions (minus the 30 minute rule). If race officials determine that the bike portion of the race will be unsafe due to wet roads, the race will be changed to a swim-run duathlon. Athletes will be informed of such a change via announcements on race morning.

FOG - Fog is not typically an issue. In the rare event that fog is so thick it poses a safety concern we will delay the start of the race until which time the fog has either lifted or too much time has passed to proceed as planned. In the event that too much time has passed to have the swim portion of the event we will follow the same procedure of progression as if there were lightning (minus the 30 minute rule).

LIGHTNING- In the event of lightning the race will be postponed by 30 minutes every time lightning is spotted and thunder is heard within 6 miles of the event. If lightning is still within 6 miles at 7:45 AM, then all athletes will be automatically changed to the sprint distance triathlon. If lightning continues to delay the event past 8:45 AM the event will then be changed to a bike / run duathlon with waves following the set order of olympic going followed by the sprint (although everyone will then be doing the sprint distance). Please note that every time lightning strikes and thunder is heard within 6 miles of the race site we must delay the start by 30 minutes. If the start of the duathlon is delayed past 9:15 AM everyone will then be running a 5k only. If the start of the 5k is delayed past 10:15 AM the entire event will unfortunately be cancelled.

TORNADO WARNING - If at anytime before (race morning close to start time) or during the event, a tornado warning is issued, the race will be cancelled. 

ON COURSE CANCELATION - If the race is canceled due to storms (lightning and/or excessive rain) or tornado warnings while it is in progress we will do everything in our power to alert everyone on the course. All police, SAG, and medical personnel will be made aware and do all they can to warn and SAG in all participants. We will also do everything in our power to assist those that are still on course. Those that are on course without means of rescue should seek immediate shelter via open stores, buildings, garages, homes and/or any other means of protection from the dangerous conditions. There are schools and fire stations along the routes (West Road and 529) that may be utilized in such situations. If it gets bad and we are not there to help you off the course please do everything you can to keep yourself safe and take shelter.

REFUNDS - As listed on the registration page there are no refunds of any kind after the cutoff date. Race morning is past the cutoff. In the event of a course alteration/change, delay, or cancelation, there will also be no refunds. Registration fees are spent long before the race begins on up front costs like police, traffic control, staff, food, vendors, contractors, awards, medals, volunteers, medical, permits, venue acquisition and athlete amenities.

HOUSTON TRIATHLON REGISTRATION

The 2012 Memorial Hermann Houston Triathlon will hopefully open registration in June at some point. We are making sure we have all the necessary permits from all the municipalities before we proceed. The race will still be on Sunday, September 30, 2012 so please save us the date. You should all receive an email when registration opens. Also check the site frequently for up-to-date news.

BRIDGELAND TRIATHLON APPROACHES 1,000

Currently we have nearly 1,000 registered and are averaging over 25 per day. The Bridgeland Triathlon will once again cap at 1,500 athletes this year. This will be the limit and as of now we have no plans on ever going over that amount. With attrition and resell we expect to have somewhere between 1,300-1,400 athletes cross the finish line on Sunday, August 5, 2012. Will you be one of them? MONSTER MASH RUN REGISTRATION OPENS MONDAY, MAY 21, 2012!

Online registration begins 9am on Monday, May 21st through Bazu Sports and No Limits Timing. It's going to be a great year so register early and save so all you have to think about is what costume you'll wear come Saturday, October 27, 2012.

BARRETT BRANDON & SARAH GRAY WIN THE 2012 MEMORIAL HERMANN KEMAH TRIATHLON!

Barrett Brandon broke 2 hours with a time of 1:59:05 to capture the overall winner title at this year's Kemah Triathlon! The female winner, Sarah Gray, turned in a smoking fast time of 2:10:07 to capture her first ever title this past weekend. Congrats to both athletes on amazing races.

Certified Lifeguards will receive a $75 stipend for working the open water from 6:00am (5:30am checkin) to 9:30am. We also need experienced kayakers to man 2 person sea kayaks we have rented. KEMAH WATER TEMPS!

Current water temp is 67-68 degrees. The weekend winds and storms in the gulf brought in some colder water. Within 100 meters of shore it warms way up but it's a bit chilly past the docks. If you have a wetsuit bring it! If you don't you should still be ok... it's warmer than it will be at Alcatraz!

4/21-4/22 WEEKEND REPORT

About 600 athletes picked up their packet from the Woodway Fleet Feet this past Saturday. An amazing turnout! Great to see you all. On Sunday we had a record 224 of you show up to the pre race clinic / practice down in Kemah. The water was great, the sun was out, and we hope you all got a great workout in and maybe learned a thing or two. Next up, 4/28 5k, Kids Tri, & Expo, then on Sunday. The main event. Rest up folks!

4/21 & 4/22 WEEKEND ACTIVITIES!

Today is Kemah Triathlon Packet Pickup #1 at Fleet Feet Sports off of Woodway in Houston from 11am-5pm. Then tomorrow we have our Pre Race Clinic / Course Practice in Kemah. You can still signup online or bring $25 cash tomorrow morning. 7:00am checkin and 7:30am start. Swim clinic and practice with transition demonstrations and course walk through, then a run on the 5k and 10k coures!
